From Times Wire Services

Japan’s exports of cars, trucks and buses declined for the fifth consecutive year in 1990, the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Assn. said today.

Overall vehicle exports fell by 0.9% to 5.83 million, while those to the United States fell by 8% to 2.24 million, the association said.

An association official said exports to the United States have declined for four consecutive years because Japanese auto makers are building more cars there. Japanese companies produced 1.46 million vehicles in the United States last year, up 18.6% from 1989.
