IRAQ lodged a strong protest with INDIA for allowing U.S. planes to refuel in Bombay, an Iraqi diplomat said in New Delhi. The protest followed publication of reports that 38 U.S. Air Force C-141 transport planes, shuttling between the Philippines and Persian Gulf, were allowed to refuel in Bombay. A Foreign Ministry spokesman said permission was granted because of friendly bilateral relations with Washington and because the planes carried non-lethal supplies. PAKISTAN’s army chief, Gen. Mirza Aslam Beg, told journalists that Pakistan did not believe that the allied forces would attack Iraq when it sent about 11,000 troops to defend Muslim holy shrines in Saudi Arabia.
