Judge Refuses to Dismiss Suit Against Neil Bush: U.S. District Judge Sherman Finesilver refused to dismiss a $200-million lawsuit brought by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. against President Bush’s son and other officers and directors of the defunct Silverado Banking, Savings & Loan. The FDIC filed the suit in September against Bush, a Denver investor and 10 other Silverado officials alleging that they were grossly negligent in the 1988 failure of the thrift. Bush and another former director, auto dealer Florian Barth, tried to have the suit dismissed, saying the FDIC didn’t have enough evidence to support the charges. Finesilver, in a 15-page ruling, said the federal suit was “replete with well-placed facts” and showed the involvement of Bush and Barth. The judge also rejected motions by five other former Silverado directors and the law firm of Sherman & Howard to dismiss or strike parts of the suit.
