To the Jan. 20 letter writers who complain that “Dances With Wolves” glorifies the American Indian at the expense of the white man, I would reply, “Yes, to a certain extent.” But it cannot begin to address the decades and the massive number of films where the opposite was true.

I suspect that there are readers who would adore the sequel to “Wolves”: ragged bands of sick and beaten Indians, mostly women and children, being forced-marched back and forth across the country by the U.S. Army.
