The stalled Uruguay Round of trade talks are poised to resume after the collapse of negotiations on agricultural subsidies last December, GATT Director-General Arthur Dunkel said today.

Speaking after his latest round of private consultations with the leading trading nations of the world, Dunkel said at the annual World Economic Forum meeting that he believes all parties are ready to reassess their positions.

The talks of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade have been stalled since last December on the question of agricultural subsidies, but Dunkel said he believes there is room for “some guarded optimism” on the possibility of their resumption.
