Black Filmmakers Honored: The Oakland-based Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame Inc. announced Tuesday the inductees and honorees for the 18th Annual Oscar Micheaux Awards. This year’s theme, “Collaborations,” is “a salute to black American filmmakers who have been able to make their presence felt by pooling their resources and bringing together the right mix of diverse talents,” said president Mary Smith. Esther Rolle (“Good Times,” “Driving Miss Daisy”) and Michael Schultz (“Cooley High”) are the 1991 Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame inductees. Playwright August Wilson and director Lloyd Richards (“Fences,” “The Piano Lesson”) are recipients of the Paul Robeson Award. Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame Inc. was founded in 1974 to highlight the history and significant contributions of black artists in cinema.
