War Coverage and Censorship

I don’t know what scales The Times was using for your editorial judgment that “on balance” Arnett’s presence in Iraq outweighs his recitation of Hussein’s propaganda (editorial, “Being There,” Jan. 30). In my judgment, he is no better than Tokyo Rose of World War II notoriety. In fact, he’s worse. Her broadcasts provided some comic relief. Arnett is involved in a much deadlier manipulation; as a seasoned reporter, he should have the experience and sense to realize this.

What independent reporting has he done since his decision to stay in Baghdad? The answer is none. He simply repeats what he is spoon-fed. Where is his integrity and pride? To me, he is nothing but “Iraqi Arnie.”
