P.M. BRIEFING : Audi Sales Unchanged in 1990

INGOLSTADT, Germany —
Sales and production at Volkswagen AG’s Audi car unit were virtually the same in 1990 as the previous year, the company reported today.
“Audi AG’s sales will be at the same level as in the previous year,” Audi said in a statement, but it gave no figures. It had sales of $8.3 billion in 1989.
The VW division said 1990 production was about 421,400 vehicles, compared to 421,243 in 1989.
Deliveries reached about 422,800, up from 421,292 in 1989, with domestic deliveries rising to around 177,100 from 162,911. In the rest of Europe, Audi’s deliveries fell to 185,400 vehicles from 202,156 the previous year.
Deliveries in Japan increased more than 16% to 16,500 in 1990 from 14,200 in the previous year, Audi said.
