GM Extends Van Nuys Shutdown: General Motors Corp. extended the temporary shutdown of its Van Nuys assembly plant through next week because of continued poor sales. The plant, which employs 3,200, has been closed since Jan. 28. The facility is GM’s sole source for the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird. GM in recent months has temporarily idled Van Nuys and other plants nationwide to trim its bloated supplies. The auto maker also plans to indefinitely lay off 850 Van Nuys workers and halve the plant’s production on April 2.
