Some of the soldiers in northern Saudi Arabia have faced nightly ATTACKS FROM THE DESERT RATS--not fighting troops specializing in arid terrain warfare, but real, major league rats with long tails. A telltale scratching and chewing sound signals the onslaught of the creatures, which are not deterred by chemically laced, anti-rat material that lines the foxholes. So far, they have chewed through webbing straps, water containers, the wires of a personal stereo, camera film cases and loads of candy.
