Alain Faure RESIGNED as president of the French section of AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL after a controversy over his opposition to the Gulf War, the human rights group said. “Our statutes define Amnesty’s mission solely as that of defending prisoners of opinion and opposing the death penalty and torture,” spokeswoman Chantal de Casabianca said. “We do not take political stances.”
