CRESTED BUTTE, Colo. — A. J. Kitt scored his second victory at the U.S. Alpine Ski Championships today by winning the super-G.
Kitt, 22, of Rochester, N.Y., who captured the men’s downhill Thursday, successfully negotiated a fast, tricky super-G course that victimized many of the top contenders. Nine of the 15 skiers in the top seed either missed gates or did not finish.
Kitt was timed in 1 minute, 23.74 seconds.
In unofficial results, Todd Kelly of Squaw Valley, Calif., was second in 1:23.91. Placing third was Toni Standteiner of Olympic Valley, Calif., in 1:24.36.
Jeremy Nobis of Park City, Utah, had recorded the fastest time of 1:23.42, but admitted at the finish line that he had missed a gate in the Panorama section about two-thirds of the way down the course.
