DIVISION III-AA ROUNDUP : Newport Harbor, McIntee Catch Fire in Second Half
Newport Harbor forward Justin McIntee scored a game-high 34 points, including 26 in the second half, as the Sailors defeated Culver City, 64-49, in a Division III-AA playoff game at Newport Harbor.
McIntee was 10 for 22 from the field and 14 for 16 from the free-throw line and also pulled down 13 rebounds to lead the Sailors (15-11).
Newport Harbor trailed 24-23 at halftime but McIntee scored the first 11 points of the third quarter to give Newport Harbor a 34-24 lead with 2:44 left in the third quarter. Culver City (3-24) closed the gap to 46-40 with seven minutes left in the game but Newport Harbor went on another 11-0 run to take a 57-40 lead with 4:30 left.
Culver City converted just eight of 34 field goals in the second half. Newport Harbor played the second half without Huy Nguyen, the team’s second-leading scorer with 16 points per game, who sprained his ankle.
