You can color your hair red but you will never know what it is like to be a redhead (“Red Alert, Red Alert,” by Karen Grigsby Bates, Jan. 6). For 41 years I’ve been a real auburn redhead, and now you say that this is the decade that I will no longer be ridiculed, discriminated against, “unromanced” or have my head patted for luck. I might find some happiness in all of this if my hair weren’t starting to turn gray. Please, Lord, I’m sorry for all those times I said I hated my red hair; just let me keep it for 10 more years.
