Nation IN BRIEF : PENNSYLVANIA : 88 Hurt by Fumes in Chemical Mishap
Two drums containing an industrial chemical exploded at the Anchor Hocking Packaging Co. plant near South Connellsville, Pa. Scores of workers and firefighters were exposed to toxic fumes. Sixty-six employees at the plant and 22 firefighters were treated at hospitals for headaches, burning in the throat and nose and nausea caused by the fumes. All but two of the injured were released. The 55-gallon drums contained vikoklex, a mixture of hydrazide and a soybean oil, said Roy Shipley, director of the Fayette County Emergency Management Agency.
