From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A Mexican teen-ager shot near the Mexican border at Calexico last year by a U.S. Border Patrol agent faces the threat of paralysis because of bullet fragments lodged near his spinal cord, his San Diego attorney said. San Diego doctors are monitoring Eduardo Garcia Zamores, 15, to determine whether the bullet fragments are moving inside his body, said attorney Irwin M. Zalkin. He said Garcia also is suffering from post traumatic stress syndrome--a psychological disorder most commonly associated with combat veterans--as a result of the Nov. 18 shooting. The attorney said the FBI has completed a preliminary report on the shooting and has submitted it to the U.S. Department of Justice. The Border Patrol agent who shot Garcia has told authorities he opened fire when the boy was preparing to throw a rock at him, Calexico Police Chief Leslie Ginn said.
