Varian Completes Sale of Unit: Varian Associates said it completed the previously announced sale of its Electro Optical Sensors night vision unit and three product lines. Based in Palo Alto, the company makes radiation equipment for cancer patients, semiconductors, analytical instruments and electron devices used in radar. Intevac Inc., a newly formed venture to be based in Santa Clara, Calif., bought the night vision unit, one of several suppliers of equipment being used by aviators in the Persian Gulf War, and two of the product lines. The other line was sold to Ebara Technologies Inc. Prices were not disclosed.
