Chip Industry Losing Ground, Report Says: The National Advisory Committee on Semiconductors, in its second annual report, said America’s chip industry is still losing ground to overseas competitors and that “serious and long-lasting” damage to the economy will result if the trend is not reversed. The panel of industry executives and government officials recommended a broad effort to support American participation in three new high-volume electronics markets: broad-band communications systems, advanced display systems and intelligent vehicle and highway systems.
