Can’t say that we’ve ever looked at...

Share

Can’t say that we’ve ever looked at a heavy moon. Or stars on a clear night. Or watched clouds scud across the sky at dusk.

Nope, can’t say that we have.

Can’t say that we’ve ever heard the rain against our window.

Or glimpsed a rainbow.

Or stopped to smell those stinkin’ roses.

Wait a minute. We did that--once. But we cut them down. Their scent was too . . . painful.

We’re busy, you see. If we can’t zap it with our TV remote control, and get on with it, then we don’t want any part of it.

Sound bites? We don’t have that kind of attention span.

Love, joy, laughter, pain and anger? What channel are they on?

And we don’t have time to think about some of our favorite words. In the interest of reader education, we’ll quickly mention a few of them here: suckle, Pooh Bear, Chautauqua and CNN.

Enough. Could we get to the point? Our engine is running. This lull is enough to make our blood pressure drop to 165 over 110.

Yeah, we know. Twilight Hikers takes weekly hikes along the Santa Monica Mountains every Friday.

How nice.

How Californian.

How . . . human.
