Hoffa’s Son to Run For Teamsters Presidency: James P. Hoffa said he would run for president of the 1.6-million-member Teamsters union once headed by his father, James R., as soon as a court fight over his eligibility is resolved. Hoffa, 49, said he hopes to announce his candidacy officially within three weeks. He has been administrative assistant to Larry Brennan, president of the 70,000-member Teamsters Michigan Joint Council 43, since April, 1990. Michael Holland, a court-appointed union overseer, ruled that Hoffa was a member in good standing of the union because he has paid dues for 22 years. Holland hasn’t ruled on whether that makes Hoffa eligible to run for union office.
