McCarthy on ‘Coward’s War’

Share

Is it just me, or have the ideas of certain leftist writers (Colman McCarthy, Feb. 15, and George Black, “Just How Far Is Bush Prepared to Go in War?” Column Left, Commentary, Feb. 17) become more peculiar in recent days?

Now we find the phrase “a coward’s war” used to describe allied operations in the Persian Gulf, denigrating the apparent success of the air campaign.

Do these writers seen to imply that greater allied and American losses are now desirable in the interest of fairness? If this is so, I humbly submit that such persons should demonstrate the, er, courage of their convictions and volunteer at once for front-line service in the war. A braver and more appropriate expression of their beliefs would be hard to imagine.
