John A. (Jack) Gillean; School District Spokesman
John A. (Jack) Gillean, 73, director of public information for the Los Angeles Unified School District from 1949 to 1972 and a frequent spokesman for the organization. A product of the Los Angeles school system, Gillean worked for area newspapers after graduating from USC and taught journalism, speech and English at Pierce Community College before joining the district. He was active in a number of local and state organizations and in 1970-71 was president of the National School Public Relations Assn. In Carpinteria on Tuesday of a heart ailment.
