Marine Reservist Gets Prison for Deserting

A Marine reservist who refused to join his unit in the Persian Gulf in December will serve 10 months in prison for desertion, a military judge ordered Tuesday.

Lance Cpl. Douglas Schiell, 21, a reservist from Livermore, Calif., on Monday pleaded guilty to desertion, and in return prosecutors dropped a charge of missing a movement.
