THE GULF WAR: The Diplomatic Front : In Washington
British Foreign Secretary Douglas HURD met with President BUSH and declared that economic sanctions against Iraq must remain in effect after the Gulf War. But he added: “It’s quite clear there’s no desire here, there’s no desire in London, to continue fighting longer than is necessary.” Bush thanked Hurd for Britain’s “steadfast, close cooperation” in the crisis.
