Executive Piracy: The new “Pirate Radio” (KQLZ) has hired KLOS program director Carey Curelop away from that top-rated album-oriented station. Curelop was at KLOS since 1989 and will begin his new job as program director at KQLZ, the Westwood One owned station, on Monday. “It was an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up,” Curelop said Thursday. “Here is sort of a picture with no paint on it and I get to paint it and that’s an exciting prospect for a program director.” Last month, KQLZ changed formats from contemporary hits to album-oriented rock (AOR) and hired away Bob Moore, the general manager of another local AOR station, KLSX. Moore is now executive vice president of Westwood One and oversees KQLZ.
