NATION IN BRIEF : NATIONWIDE : Lead Said to Imperil Radiator Repairmen

The nation’s 40,000 car radiator repair workers appear to be at high risk for exposure to excessive levels of lead, federal health officials said in Atlanta. Tests of radiator shops found levels of airborne lead 10 times as great as the highest level permitted by the government. Exposure to high amounts of lead can lead to poisoning of the blood, coma, nerve damage, kidney failure, reproductive dysfunction and anemia, the officials said.
