Developers Being Sought for Desert Business Park
Los Angeles city officials have begun seeking developers to build a sprawling business park on its airport lands near Palmdale, a long-awaited attempt to attract activity to the desert area.
The city envisions building the project on a 442-acre tract, part of the overall 17,750-acre airport property that the city has spent more than 20 years and $100 million to acquire. Airport officials expressed doubts about the potential level of developer interest during the current economic slowdown.
“We’re going to try to see. We don’t know,” said city Department of Airports executive director Clifton Moore.
The city has begun mailing applications to nearly 100 firms--from national development firms to real estate offices--seeking proposals on the project.
