Disappearing Posters

Images of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein have vanished from much of Jordan. Posters depicting Hussein on a white horse, dressed in military fatigues or Western suits had plastered taxis, buses and shop windows. Part of the reason is a SLOWDOWN IN BUSINESS AFTER THE IRAQI DEFEAT, but police--who were irked by photomontages showing Hussein wrestling with President Bush and of Saudi King Fahd as a belly dancer--have cracked down. Souvenir stores and bookshops in Amman, which sold Hussein memorabilia, report slow sales. But one store still displays Iraqi license plates naming Washington and London as provinces of Iraq.
