Michael Tritscher of Austria won his first World Cup race by taking the men’s European slalom finale at Lillehammer, Norway, by half a second over teammate Thomas Stangassinger.

Tritscher, 25, clocked the fastest times in both runs for a combined time of 1 minute 52.93 seconds on the Hafjell course, where the 1994 Olympic gate races for men and women will be held.

Marc Girardelli of Luxembourg, the world slalom champion, finished fourth and increased his lead in the World Cup overall standings over Alberto Tomba of Italy to 73 points.
