Charger Ticket Prices Won’t Go Up This Year

The Chargers announced Wednesday that ticket prices for the 1991 season will not increase, but they will in 1992. It is the fourth consecutive year the Chargers have maintained ticket prices. Parking costs will not change this season either.

At $22.77, the Chargers have the fourth-lowest average ticket price in the NFL. Tickets in Kansas City, Green Bay and Detroit are the lowest. At least 11 teams have a $26 average ticket price.

HOCKEY

In an effort to improve their speed, the Gulls acquired center Martin Bergeron from the Binghamton Rangers of the American Hockey League.

Bergeron scored 11 goals and had 22 assists in 41 games with the Rangers. He and defenseman Mark Vichorek will be available for Friday’s home game against Salt Lake. In three recent games with the Gulls, Vichorek, from Nashville of the East Coast Hockey League, had one goal and two assists.

BASEBALL

Point Loma Nazarene opened Golden State Athletic Conference play with a 6-1 loss to Cal Baptist at PLNC. Dave Swearingen went 2 for 4, including a double, for the Crusaders (9-6, 0-1). Four players picked up two hits apiece for Cal Baptist (9-3, 1-0).

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Palomar College upset Orange Coast College, the defending state community college champion, 15-4, 15-6, 16-18, 15-10 in a South Coast Conference match at Palomar College.

Rob Thomas’ 30 kills and Kirk Kinney’s five stuffed blocks paced the Palomar College (7-2). OCC dropped to 8-1.

Grossmont bounced back from a 14-8 deficit in the deciding game to defeat Golden West, 15-8, 10-15, 15-8, 10-15, 16-14 in South Coast Conference action at Grossmont College. Ed Jackson led Grossmont (3-5, 2-2) with 32 kills. Golden West evened its conference record at 2-2.
