AFTERMATH OF WAR: The International Front : In Turkey

Share

Unsure when the United Nations will lift sanctions on Iraq, Turkey EXPECTS IRAQI OIL EXPORT PIPELINES to the Mediterranean TO STAY SHUT for the time being. Officials say the twin pipelines are ready to operate on the Turkish side of the border but have no word on damage that allied bombing raids may have inflicted on the Iraqi side. They cannot confirm reports that a huge pumping station that pumped crude to the pipelines through Turkey was an early victim of the air war. The newspaper Hurriyet said last week that President Turgut Ozal had intervened to strike pipeline installations off a list of targets for U.S. planes raiding Iraq from the Incirlik base in southern Turkey.
