West Covina : City Calls Meeting on Gangs

City officials will seek the community’s help in solving an increasing gang problem.

The City Council has scheduled a special town meeting at 7:30 p.m. on March 18 in the cafeteria of Rincon Intermediate School, 2800 E. Hollingworth St. Residents will be asked for suggestions on combatting gang violence.

Gang crime in West Covina was up 74% last year compared with 1989, police said. Police have identified 11 gangs in the city with more than 2,100 members. Most gang members are 13 to 18 years old, they said.
