From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Pro-Iranian Muslim extremists holding 13 Western hostages have moved the captives from the slums of southern Beirut to new hide-outs in eastern Lebanon, security sources said. The United States and Britain have asked Syria and Iran to help secure the release of the hostages. Syria fought alongside the allies in the Gulf War and Iran was officially neutral. A source said Lebanese troops searched all suspected hide-outs in south Beirut and found no trace of the captives--six Americans, four Britons, two Germans and an Italian.
