U.S. and Hong Kong authorities have uncovered a ring that smuggled heroin to New York by packing it in hollow mahjong tiles and Buddha statues, a Hong Kong police spokesman said Thursday.

Authorities seized eight pounds of heroin in New York, where it could sell for up to $3.5 million, the spokesman said. The spokesman said four men and a woman were arrested in Hong Kong on Wednesday night. Authorities in New York arrested two men.
