Nation IN BRIEF : ARIZONA : Ex-Navajo Leader Faces More Charges

Former Navajo tribal leader Peter MacDonald, his son and a business associate were indicted by a federal grand jury in Phoenix in an alleged scheme to siphon a $2.3-million economic development loan from the tribe. MacDonald, 62, already faces a sentence of 7 1/2 years in jail for bribery, fraud and ethics violations over the tribe’s purchase of a ranch in northern Arizona in July, 1987. In the latest indictment, MacDonald, his son Peter (Rocky) MacDonald Jr. and an associate, Carlos Pimentel, are accused of fraud, racketeering, bribery and extortion.
