2nd-Period Rally Lifts Rivermen Over Gulls

Scoring four goals in the second period, the Peoria Rivermen defeated the Gulls, 4-0, Saturday night at Peoria. The Gulls (28-37-8) are now one point behind the Milwaukee Admirals in the IHL Western Division playoff chase.

Guy Hebert picked up the victory in goal, saving 25 shots for the shutout. Gull goalie Alain Chevrier (8-12-1) also faced 25 shots in the losing effort.

Nelson Emerson, Richard Pion, Jim Vesey and Michel Mongeau scored for first-place Peoria, which improved to 50-16-5. The fifth-place Gulls, who haven’t won two games in a row in two months, fell to 28-37-8. They defeated the Fort Wayne Komets, 3-1, Friday night.

Milwaukee stayed ahead of the Gulls with a 6-2 victory over the Kansas City Blades. The Gulls start a three-game home stand Wednesday against Kansas City and have 10 games remaining on their schedule.

Included in the next home stand are back to back games next weekend against Peoria, which has the best record in the IHL.
