Fewer Oil Rigs: The U.S. rotary rig count fell to 908 from 948 last week while drilling activity in the Gulf of Mexico increased for the second week, with two more rigs under contract, energy surveys showed. Offshore Data Services reported a utilization rate of 64.5%, with 131 rigs employed out of a fleet of 203. One more rig was also under contract in European waters last week, pushing that area’s utilization rate to 90.1%, with 127 rigs employed out of a fleet of 141.
