TUSTIN : Group Finds New Name Is Taken

Share

Less than two weeks after the Foothill Communities Assn. decided to change its name to the North Tustin Community Assn., another group announced it has beaten FCA to the punch.

Victor Gorham and other longtime North Tustin residents said this week that they reserved the name with the secretary of state’s office in January and filed incorporation papers last week.

Several of the new group’s founders have been vocal opponents of the FCA, which supports placing incorporation of North Tustin on the ballot.

For months, tensions have been high between North Tustin residents who

favor incorporation and those who prefer to remain unincorporated or be annexed to neighboring cities.

William Weber, an FCA board member, said Tuesday he thinks the new group came up with North Tustin Community Assn. name to block the FCA from using it.

Gorham said the new group, which has been meeting for months, had no idea the FCA had even discussed the name change until local newspapers announced the decision.

Gorham said the purpose of the new association is to preserve self-determination for North Tustin residents and provide information on various issues, including incorporation.

The group decided to make its announcement now because it heard the FCA had decided to use the same name.
