GOLDEN OLDIE: After more than a year of training, swimmer Mark Spitz (above) returns to competition for the first time in nearly 20 years with two head-to-head 50-meter butterfly races in Mission Viejo. Spitz, 41, won a record seven gold medals at the 1972 Munich Olympics and hopes to become the oldest gold medal swimmer at next year’s Olympics. . . . An event spokesman says Mission Viejo will host the televised April 13 and 27 races because “it has one of the top swimming facilities in the world.”
