Iacocca Writes to Bush: Chrysler Corp. Chairman Lee A. Iacocca has written a letter to President Bush asking him to help limit Japanese auto makers’ share of the U.S. market. In the March 6 letter to Bush, Iacocca said his company would be “gone” and Ford Motor Co. would be in serious trouble if imports take a larger market share, the Detroit News reported Sunday. Bush has not personally responded to the letter, but the Treasury Department said the Bush Administration believes that the U.S. auto industry would be more sound in the long run if competition is kept as open as possible.
