10-Day Auto Sales Fall: Domestic sales of U.S.-made vehicles during mid- March fell 10.5% from year-ago levels, countering expectations that the end of the Gulf War and higher consumer confidence would fuel a spring selling season. Light-duty truck sales skidded 13.3%. The annual sales rate for cars--the most common measure of industry performance--was 5.4 million cars during the period, compared to 5.5 million last year. Sales of General Motors’ cars slid 10.8%, while its truck sales were down 11.6%. Second-ranked Ford posted a 15.3% slide in car sales and a 21.9% drop in truck sales. There were nine selling days in both the latest period and a year earlier.
