PLACENTIA : Applications Ready for City Committees

The City Council is accepting applications for nine positions on city committees that will have openings starting July 1.

Two slots are available on the Planning Commission, which votes on development applications and advises the City Council on zone changes and changes to city codes. The seven-member commission also reviews the city’s General Plan, a blueprint for commercial and residential construction. Commissioners are paid $50 per month.

The Recreation and Parks Commission will have openings for one adult and one high school student member. The seven-member commission advises the council on park plans, recreational activities and rules and regulations for park facilities. Commissioners are paid $25 a month.

Two positions are available on the Cultural Arts Commission, which promotes community awareness of the arts. The seven-member commission also sponsors lectures and the annual Celebration of the Arts program. Commissioners are paid $25 a month.

The Traffic Safety Commission will have two openings. The seven-member commission reviews public complaints and suggestions and advises the City Council concerning rules for vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic. Commissioners are paid $25 a month.

One position will be available on the Civic Center Authority, which meets once a year to discuss city offices and the library.

City Council members will conduct brief interviews with applicants at their June meetings. The deadline for applications is June 7, and appointments will be made June 18 or July 2.
