Silence of the Nissan: The staff at Nissan Design International in La Jolla got an unusual order from their boss the other day: Shut down and go see “The Silence of the Lambs.” Though the connection between automotive design and a movie about a cannibalistic psychiatrist and transsexual serial killer is evasive at first glance, Gerald Hirshberg told Autoweek magazine, “a controversial film is one of the ways of drinking in culture. We did the same thing when ‘Batman’ opened. You have to let life into work. Design blurs the distinction between what is life and what is work.”
