Monetary Reform in Argentina: Congress approved a plan to link Argentina’s currency, the austral, with the dollar in an effort to halt triple-digit annual inflation. The Chamber of Deputies passed the measure after an all-night debate by a vote of 115-64. The Senate, controlled by the ruling Peronist Party, approved it last Friday, two days after its unveiling by Economy Minister Domingo Cavallo.
