Pan Am Loses Payment Appeal: Pan American World Airways lost another round in its efforts to keep using 34 leased aircraft without making timely payments. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall turned down Pan Am’s request for an order to let it keep the planes while appealing a bankruptcy court’s order. The order that Pan Am either pay $33 million or risk repossession of the planes had been upheld through two previous challenges by the cash-strapped airline.
