God and Humanism

Share

I cannot read into any dictionary definition of humanism an agenda that would result in “yuppies, feminists and those with alternate lifestyles . . . demanding their ‘rights,’ ” as Garrity puts it. Neither can I understand the use of those characterizations as offensive epithets.

I suggest that Garrity and her fellow “Christians” cease blaming us “humanists” for all those things of which they disapprove; in turn, we will consider not blaming them for the bigotry, closed-mindedness and hypocrisy that seem to predominate among them. However, we do not promise to stop reminding them that most of the world’s problems can be traced to one phrase in the Bible: “Go forth and multiply.”
