Laser Precision Corp., a maker of measurement and test instruments, said Monday that Eugene White has resigned as president and chief operating officer for personal reasons.

David M. Goodman, chairman and chief executive, said White will remain as a consultant to the company.

“Since joining Laser Precision in 1986, Gene helped build a management team and design a competitive strategy that will serve the company well into the 1990s,” Goodman said in a statement.

Goodman said that the resignation was unexpected and that the company will begin searching for a replacement. White joined the company as general manager of a division in Utica, N.Y., and was named president and chief operating officer in January.

Last October, Laser Precision sold its analytical division in Irvine for $5 million and said it would focus on its fiber-optic and light-sensitive instrument technology.

The company lost $251,000 in 1990, including $2 million in losses from discontinued operations. In 1989, the company posted earnings of $157,000, with $1.4 million in losses from discontinued operations.

Revenue increased 15% in 1990, to $22.5 million from $19.6 million in 1989.
