DANGER ABOVE: UC Irvine chemistry professor F. Sherwood Rowland says that when it comes to the ozone layer, things are going to get worse before they get better. He should know; he’s one of the scientists who discovered the depletion in the layer. . . . In testimony he’s due to give in Washington today before a Senate committee, Rowland says ozone- layer depletion “is likely to worsen” for another 20 to 25 years. After that, there will be a “gradual lessening,” he predicts.
