Regarding “O’Connor Renews Issue of Bias Against Catholicism,” April 4:

For quite some time, religious traditionalists of all denominations have been putting forth the wrongful notion that it is OK to discriminate against homosexuals. They have had ample assistance from conservative media representatives.

When you lend credence to the misnomer that prejudice and discrimination are acceptable, beneficial “traditional values,” this faulty reasoning tends to carry over into mainstream thinking. Fundamentalists, in their “holy war” against gays, have fostered a climate of fashionable intolerance that has now blown up in their faces, spurring a predictable backlash. For this, they have no one to blame but themselves!
