The number of women competing could increase significantly at the 1996 Atlanta Games, an Olympic official said.
The executive board of the IOC has accepted three recommendations for increasing the number of women’s team events in 1996, IOC information director Michele Verdier said at a news conference.
The proposals call for the introduction of softball, an increase in the number of basketball, handball and volleyball teams and a synchronized swimming team event replacing the solo and duet competitions.
